Dr. Adrian Iordache
Music Instructor and Director of Instrumental Music
A native of Romania, Dr. Adrian Iordache is the former trombonist of the National
Opera in Romania and the National Lyric Opera and Musical Theater Ion Dacian in Bucharest. He has performed with various ensembles in many countries, such as
China, Germany, Greece, Turkey, and Romania.
Dr. Iordache holds a Bachelor in Music Performance from the National University of Music Bucharest, a Graduate Professional Studies in Music Performance from Mannes College of Music in New York City, a Master's Degree in Music Performance from Rutgers University, a Master's Degree in School Administration from New Jersey City University, and a Ph.D. in Music with a concentration in Music Education from the University of South Florida.
He studied conducting with Dr. Scott Whitener, Dr. William Wiedrich, and Dr. Matthew McCutchen, and his trombone teachers and coaches include Dr. Per Brevig (former principal trombonist of the Metropolitan Opera), David Finlayson (trombonist of the New York Philharmonic), John Rojak (bass trombonist of American Quintet Brass), and Florea Pane (principal trombonist of the George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra).
Before his appointment as Director of Instrumental Music at Eastern Florida State College in 2022, Dr. Iordache taught at the University of South Florida, College of Central Florida in Ocala, Harrison, New Jersey school district, and Westminster Conservatory in Princeton, New Jersey.
His research interests include alternative methodologies of instrumental music instruction, for which he completed a Fulbright student research appointment researching the elements of non-traditional music education methods specific to Roma musicians from Romania.
He is also interested in the effect of music education on cognitive development, for which he observed the differences in cognitive performance between a music group, a visual art group, and a control group of children from Romania.
The title of his dissertation is Instrumental Music Instruction and Executive Functions: A Cross-Sectional Study of Romanian Children (10-12 Years).
