How to Apply to EFSC As A

Transient College Student

A transient student is someone who’s currently enrolled at another college or university who will register for courses at Eastern Florida State College on a temporary, term-by-term basis, and who will not pursue a degree at EFSC. You’re interested in taking a class or classes to earn credits that you can transfer to your home institution or to increase your knowledge.

The steps below outline the application and course registration process for students from other institutions who want to take transient courses at EFSC.

If you are a current Eastern Florida student who wants to take courses at another institution, visit our Registrar's Office page for guidance.

EFSC has a rolling admissions process, which means we accept new students year-round and constantly process applications. We do set priority deadlines to give you ample time to complete any admissions follow-up requirements, but we continue to process applications after that date, so apply at any time. Just remember that transient students who need approval from their home institution should factor that in to their enrollment timeline.

Steps to Enroll

Students from Florida state public colleges and universities

As a student already attending another public Florida institution, you do not have to apply directly to Eastern Florida. That's because your request to take a course or courses at EFSC is handled through FloridaShines — our state’s free online Student Hub where transient course requests are processed.

Visit the "Take a Course at Another School Section" of the FloridaShines website.

Once on that FloridaShines web page, read the information carefully and then click the link called "Apply or Check Application Status Now."

A new online form must be provided through FloridaShines every term that you request to take a course at EFSC as a transient student.

The FloridaShines system will email you as your request progresses through the approval process at your home school and then at EFSC, plus you can log into FloridaShines and check the status at any time.

Your FloridaShines access is connected to the log-in process that you use for your home school and your home institution will also make the final decision on residency that will determine whether you are eligible for in-state tuition at EFSC.

Students from Florida private and out-of-state schools

This step only applies to transient students who cannot use the FloridaShines system. If you do attend an out-of-state or private in-state school start by filling out EFSC's online application.

EFSC Online Application

  • Be prepared to pay the one-time, non-refundable $30 application fee online by credit card or in person by cash or check. If paying in person you will receive a confirmation email with instructions on how to pay the fee by cash or check at a Campus Student Accounts office.
  • Be sure to complete the required Florida Residency Declaration Process after submitting your online application, which is required even if you are not a Florida resident.
  • Submit a transient letter or letter of good standing from your home institution. This can be mailed to an EFSC Admissions Office using the contact info below or you can submit it using the electronic Student Document Dropbox once you have a log in to the myEFSC Portal where the dropbox system is located.
Consider student orientation, enroll for courses, pay tuition & get an ID, parking permit & books.
  • While not mandated for transient students, orientation through our easy-to-use online system is recommended for all students. It’s an introduction to life at EFSC and will answer many questions you might have about our support services and processes.
  • Registering for classes online is the easiest way to go if you do not have any holds on your account. Visit the Class Schedule for current course listings.
  • Check out the Student Accounts section for information on paying tuition and fees by the deadline.
  • Student ID cards are available at any EFSC Campus Security Office for free by presenting your class registration and a photo ID. This ID also will be your library card and replacing a lost card costs $10.
  • A Student Parking Permit is required to park on any EFSC Campus. The decal cost varies by term. Getting the permit involves a two-step process to generate a temporary permit online and then pick up the permit at your campus security office.
  • EFSC Bookstores are your source for required textbooks and course materials. Most EFSC courses are automatically part of the Titan First Day Ready program, designed to save students money. At least 30 days before the first day of class each term, the Bookstore will send an email with instructions on how to verify your course materials list, arrange pickup or delivery, or opt out and obtain materials yourself.
