Bobbie McMillan

Art Instructor

Bobbie McMillan completed her Master of Arts degree in Ceramic Arts from Hood College, located in Fredrick, Maryland, in 2015. Previously, she earned a BFA with a concentration in Ceramics and a minor in Art History from the University of Houston in Houston TX. Currently she is pursuing a Master of Art in Art History from Fort Hays University in Hays, Kansas. Additionally, she has a Studies in Education M.S. from Walden University in Minneapolis, MN and a Studies in Humanities M.A. from California State University in Dominquez Hills, CA.

She has studied ceramics with numerous master potters and ceramists. Some of those masters are as follows: Kanzaki Masumitsu in Shigaraki, Japan and Zhenhong Zhang and Professor Hui Wang (ceramic artists known for their teapots) at Yixing University in Yixing China. Ceramic artists known for Raku and alternative firing techniques include Paul Soldner, Charlie and Linda Riggs, Sang Roberson, and Michael Sheba of Ontario, CA. Ceramic sculpture studies include ceramic artists Barbara Sorenson, Debra Frits, Cheryl Tall, Don Reitz, and Rudy Autio. Wheel throwing masters include Lorna Meaden, Linda Arbuckle, Ushiro Akio, Steve Locks, Jinsong Kim, and Tom Coleman.

Prior to her full-time art instructor position at Eastern Florida State College, McMillan taught at EFSC as an adjunct for twenty plus years and was awarded an Outstanding Adjunct Award in 2007. Additionally, she taught ceramics at North Harris County College in Houston, Texas and the Foosaner Art Museum in Melbourne, Florida.

She has also served as a consultant for the Florida Association for Volunteer Action in the Caribbean and the Americas on building and firing fast-firing fiber kilns.
