Sign up for Auditions:

Book an audition on either April 24th or 25th, 2026. Warm-up spaces and program information will be provided on audition day. You may need to advance the calendar to April 2026 to see eligible dates. See audition requirements below.

Music Auditions

All students interested in joining the EFSC Music Department need to start with an audition. Music Majors and Non-Majors alike are welcome to participate and are both eligible for a music scholarship.

Audition Requirements

Instrumental Audition Requirements

Scales
Candidates will be asked to perform several major scales chosen at random.

  • 2 octaves where able, at a moderate tempo
  • Pianists will perform 4 octave scales, hands together
  • Memorization of scales is preferred

Repertoire
Candidates will perform 1 piece that shows their strengths. Candidates must provide their own music.

  • Classical Majors:
    • Candidates will perform 2 minutes of any piece
    • Accompanists are not provided
  • Jazz Majors:
    • Candidates will perform a Jazz Standard and improvise 2 choruses on that tune
    • An accompanist will be provided for improvisers

Sight Reading
Candidates should be prepared to sight read a short excerpt (16-32 bars) at a moderate tempo. 30 seconds will be given to review the excerpt before performance.

  • Large instruments such as percussion (marimba, timpani, drum set, etc.), tubas, or string bass, are available for students to use.

Vocal Audition Requirements

Repertoire

  • Candidates are encouraged to bring a prepared piece of music, but it is not necessary.
    • If preparing a piece, please bring the sheet music for the accompanist.

Scholarship Requirements

Candidates wishing to apply for a music scholarship must complete the following:

  1. Indicate on the Audition Form that you would like one.
  2. Successfully pass the audition.
  3. After Acceptance Notifications have been delivered, sign up for lessons on your Primary Instrument and at least 1 Ensemble. More information on lessons and ensembles will be given in your audition packet the day of.
  4. Candidates will be notified of Award Amounts, which will be automatically applied to their EFSC account.
  5. Priority will be given to Music Majors, though all are eligible for scholarships.
