Eastern Florida State College regularly holds contests and drawings to give current students a chance to win prizes. Explore the list in the accordion below for eligibility requirements, deadlines, how to enter, and more information about each promotion.

EFSC employees or students planning a college-sponsored promotion should review the process and submit a request to add rules to this page. Please note that requests must be submitted at least two weeks prior to the start of the promotion.

EFSC's Grand Debate

Please Note: Due to the Hurricane Milton campus closure from October 8-10, the Grand Debate was rescheduled from Monday, October 14th to Monday, October 28th. The rules below have been adjusted to reflect the new details and deadlines.

Eligibility

The The Grand Debate (the "Contest") is open to currently enrolled Eastern Florida State College students taking at least one class who are legal residents of the fifty (50) United States or the District of Columbia and are at least eighteen (18) years old at the time of entry (or who submit a signed parent/guardian consent and release form). Employees (including student employees) of Eastern Florida State College (the "Sponsor") and other companies associated with the promotion of the Contest and their respective immediate families (spouses, parents, siblings, and children) and household members are not eligible to win.

Contest Period

The Contest begins on 08/26/2024 at 12:00 AM ET and ends on 10/28/2024 at 08:00 PM ET (the "Contest Period"). Entries that are submitted before or after the Contest Period will be disqualified.

How to Enter

To enter the Contest, eligible students should do the following during the Contest Period:

Students should self-register for the Grand Debate Canvas Shell no later than Friday, September 13th, at 11:59 PM to participate in the event, which will be held on the Cocoa Campus in Bldg. 14, Rm. 104, on Monday, October 28h from 6 to 8 PM. The topic for this year's debate is, "Social media should be banned for minors."

Winners of this preliminary round will move on to the statewide competition for a chance to win $1,200.

Each entrant is only eligible to win one (1) prize throughout the duration of the Contest, regardless of method of entry. Data pertaining to all entries become the property of the Sponsor and will not be acknowledged or returned.

Winner Selection

On 10/28/2024 at 08:00 PM ET, one or more entities working on behalf of the Sponsor will select the potential winner(s) in accordance with the judging criteria (Opening Arguments, Comprehension of Relevant Factors, Rebuttals, Quality of Evidence, Presentation, and Consistency) from among all eligible entries in the following location: Cocoa Campus, Bldg. 14, Rm. 104. The odds of being selected depend on the number of entries received. The Sponsor will attempt to notify the potential winner(s) via video conference, social media, email, telephone, or in person on or around 10/28/2024. If the potential winner(s) cannot be contacted within five (5) days, the Sponsor may select alternate potential winner(s) from among the remaining eligible entries. Any prize having a total announced value of $5,000 or more must be offered in strict compliance with §849.094, Florida Statutes.

Prize(s)

Each eligible winner will receive one prize from among the following:

First place will receive a tablet with a starting value of $100.
Both the first-place winner and the runner-up will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to St. Petersburg College's Seminole Campus for the statewide competition.

Prize retail value may differ at the time of award. The specifics of the prize(s), which is/are funded by the Office of Student Life, will be solely determined by the Sponsor. No cash or other prize substitution(s) will be permitted, except at the Sponsor's discretion. All prizes are non-transferable and subject to income tax. Any and all prize-related expenses, including without limitation, any and all federal, state, and/or local income taxes, shall be the sole responsibility of the winner. Any winner of a prize valued in excess of $600 at the time of award must provide their social security number, EIN, or TIN to Eastern Florida State College and shall receive an IRS Form 1099. Acceptance of a prize constitutes permission for the Sponsor to use a winner's name, likeness, and entry for purposes of advertising and promotion without further compensation, unless prohibited by law.

4th Annual Cyber Titans Capture the Flag
Eligibility

The 4th Annual Cyber Titans Capture the Flag Contest (the "Contest") is open to currently enrolled Eastern Florida State College students taking at least one class who are legal residents of the fifty (50) United States or the District of Columbia and are at least eighteen (18) years old at the time of entry (or who submit a signed parent/guardian consent and release form). Employees (including student employees) of Eastern Florida State College (the "Sponsor") and other companies associated with the promotion of the Contest and their respective immediate families (spouses, parents, siblings, and children) and household members are not eligible to win.

Contest Period

The Contest begins on 10/24/2024 at 02:30 PM ET and ends on 10/24/2024 at 05:30 PM ET (the "Contest Period"). Entries that are submitted before or after the Contest Period will be disqualified.

How to Enter

To enter the Contest, eligible students should do the following during the Contest Period:

Self-enroll in the Capture the Flag Canvas Shell during the Cybersecurity Career Day Conference where students will then find challenges to complete

Each entrant is only eligible to win one (1) prize throughout the duration of the Contest, regardless of method of entry. Data pertaining to all entries become the property of the Sponsor and will not be acknowledged or returned.

Winner Selection

On 10/24/2024 at 05:00 PM ET, one or more entities working on behalf of the Sponsor will select the potential winner(s) in accordance with the judging criteria (Top total points earned by completing challenges) from among all eligible entries in the following location: Melbourne Campus, Bldg. 16, 2nd Floor Conference Center. The odds of being selected depend on the number of entries received. The Sponsor will attempt to notify the potential winner(s) via video conference, social media, email, telephone, or in person on or around 10/24/2024. If the potential winner(s) cannot be contacted within five (5) days, the Sponsor may select alternate potential winner(s) from among the remaining eligible entries. Melbourne Spooktoberfest Costume Contest
Eligibility

The Melbourne Spooktober Fest Costume Contest (the "Contest") is open to currently enrolled Eastern Florida State College students taking at least one class who are legal residents of the fifty (50) United States or the District of Columbia and are at least eighteen (18) years old at the time of entry (or who submit a signed parent/guardian consent and release form). Employees (including student employees) of Eastern Florida State College (the "Sponsor") and other companies associated with the promotion of the Contest and their respective immediate families (spouses, parents, siblings, and children) and household members are not eligible to win.

Contest Period

The Contest begins on 10/24/2024 at 06:00 PM ET and ends on 10/24/2024 at 08:00 PM ET (the "Contest Period"). Entries that are submitted before or after the Contest Period will be disqualified.

How to Enter

To enter the Contest, eligible students should do the following during the Contest Period:

Attend the Melbourne campus Halloween celebration, Spooktoberfest, in costume. Visit the costume contest sign up table to enter. Categories are Most Creative, Most Scary, Best Pair, and Best Overall.

Each entrant is only eligible to win one (1) prize throughout the duration of the Contest, regardless of method of entry. Data pertaining to all entries become the property of the Sponsor and will not be acknowledged or returned.

Winner Selection

On 10/24/2024 at 08:45 PM ET, one or more entities working on behalf of the Sponsor will select the potential winner(s) in accordance with the judging criteria (originality, application to the category, effort, and presentation will be ranked on a point-based, 0-10 system while considering the category the costumer entered; the highest overall score will win Best Overall) from among all eligible entries in the following location: Melbourne Campus, , Pavilion. The odds of being selected depend on the number of entries received. The Sponsor will attempt to notify the potential winner(s) via video conference, social media, email, telephone, or in person on or around 10/24/2024. If the potential winner(s) cannot be contacted within five (5) days, the Sponsor may select alternate potential winner(s) from among the remaining eligible entries. Eligibility

The Palm Bay "Bears in the Woods" Contest (the "Contest") is open to currently enrolled Eastern Florida State College students taking at least one class who are legal residents of the fifty (50) United States or the District of Columbia and are at least eighteen (18) years old at the time of entry (or who submit a signed parent/guardian consent and release form). Employees (including student employees) of Eastern Florida State College (the "Sponsor") and other companies associated with the promotion of the Contest and their respective immediate families (spouses, parents, siblings, and children) and household members are not eligible to win.

Contest Period

The Contest begins on 10/31/2024 at 12:15 PM ET and ends on 10/31/2024 at 08:00 PM ET (the "Contest Period"). Entries that are submitted before or after the Contest Period will be disqualified.

How to Enter

To enter the Contest, eligible students should do the following during the Contest Period:

Write down their name, phone number, and the number of bears they think are in the container, then submit their entry by placing it in the guessing box located in Bldg. 1, Room 138. Alternatively, students may enter by submitting their information and guess via email to Ancel Robinson Jr.

Each entrant is only eligible to win one (1) prize throughout the duration of the Contest, regardless of method of entry. Data pertaining to all entries become the property of the Sponsor and will not be acknowledged or returned.

Winner Selection

On 11/04/2024 at 12:00 PM ET, one or more entities working on behalf of the Sponsor will select the potential winner(s) in accordance with the judging criteria (The guess that is closest to, but not over, the amount of gummy bears in the container.) from among all eligible entries in the following location: Palm Bay Campus, Bldg. 1, Rm. 138. The odds of being selected depend on the number of entries received. The Sponsor will attempt to notify the potential winner(s) via video conference, social media, email, telephone, or in person on or around 11/04/2024. If the potential winner(s) cannot be contacted within five (5) days, the Sponsor may select alternate potential winner(s) from among the remaining eligible entries. Any prize having a total announced value of $5,000 or more must be offered in strict compliance with §849.094, Florida Statutes.

Eligibility

The Palm Bay Spooky Chairs (the "Contest") is open to currently enrolled Eastern Florida State College students taking at least one class who are legal residents of the fifty (50) United States or the District of Columbia and are at least eighteen (18) years old at the time of entry (or who submit a signed parent/guardian consent and release form). Contest Period

The Contest begins on 10/31/2024 at 12:15 PM ET and ends on 10/31/2024 at 06:00 PM ET (the "Contest Period"). Entries that are submitted before or after the Contest Period will be disqualified.

How to Enter

To enter the Contest, eligible students should do the following during the Contest Period:

Fill out the information on the sign up seat that will be made available during the Fall Fest event. Students can also sign up by sending an email to Ancel Robinson Jr. during the sign up period, but must be present to play the spooky musical chairs. In this game, students will walk around a circle until the music stops. Whoever is left standing is disqualified, each round will remove a chair until one remains. Two rounds will be played.

Each entrant is only eligible to win one (1) prize throughout the duration of the Contest, regardless of method of entry. Data pertaining to all entries become the property of the Sponsor and will not be acknowledged or returned.

Winner Selection

On 10/31/2024 at 08:00 PM ET, one or more entities working on behalf of the Sponsor will select the potential winner(s) in accordance with the judging criteria (The last student to be sitting in a chair when the music stops) from among all eligible entries in the following location: Palm Bay Campus, Bldg. 2, Patio. Writers' Haven Spooky Stories Contest

Eligibility

The Writers' Haven Spooky Stories Contest (the "Contest") is open to currently enrolled Eastern Florida State College students taking at least one class who are legal residents of the fifty (50) United States or the District of Columbia and are at least eighteen (18) years old at the time of entry (or who submit a signed parent/guardian consent and release form). Employees (including student employees) of Eastern Florida State College (the "Sponsor") and other companies associated with the promotion of the Contest and their respective immediate families (spouses, parents, siblings, and children) and household members are not eligible to win.

Contest Period

The Contest begins on 10/29/2024 at 04:00 PM ET and ends on 10/29/2024 at 06:30 PM ET (the "Contest Period"). Entries that are submitted before or after the Contest Period will be disqualified.

How to Enter

To enter the Contest, eligible students should do the following during the Contest Period:

Bring a printed copy of an original short story or poem to be read aloud by either themselves or a club government member during the event.

Entries should be no longer than 1,000 words or readable within five (5) minutes. This timing must be confirmed before the reading begins.

There are three (3) categories for entries:

- A spooky story
- A general story or poem
- An original piece written by an existing club member. (An existing club member is defined as someone who has attended at least three club meetings.)

Students may only participate in one category, and their selection must be made before reading aloud.

Each entrant is only eligible to win one (1) prize throughout the duration of the Contest, regardless of method of entry. Data pertaining to all entries become the property of the Sponsor and will not be acknowledged or returned.

Winner Selection

On 10/29/2024 at 07:00 PM ET, one or more entities working on behalf of the Sponsor will select the potential winner(s) in accordance with the judging criteria (Judges will numerically evaluate each work with a score of 1 - 4 in the following traits: Originality, Writing Conventions, Theming, and Audience Engagement.) from among all eligible entries in the following location: Cocoa Campus, Bldg. 3, Rm. 184. The odds of being selected depend on the number of entries received. The Sponsor will attempt to notify the potential winner(s) via video conference, social media, email, telephone, or in person on or around 10/29/2024. If the potential winner(s) cannot be contacted within five (5) days, the Sponsor may select alternate potential winner(s) from among the remaining eligible entries. Any prize having a total announced value of $5,000 or more must be offered in strict compliance with §849.094, Florida Statutes.

The Haunted Reading Costume Contest (the "Contest") is open to currently enrolled Eastern Florida State College students taking at least one class who are legal residents of the fifty (50) United States or the District of Columbia and are at least eighteen (18) years old at the time of entry (or who submit a signed parent/guardian consent and release form). Employees (including student employees) of Eastern Florida State College (the "Sponsor") and other companies associated with the promotion of the Contest and their respective immediate families (spouses, parents, siblings, and children) and household members are not eligible to win.

Contest Period

The Contest begins on 10/29/2024 at 06:00 PM ET and ends on 10/29/2024 at 08:30 PM ET (the "Contest Period"). Entries that are submitted before or after the Contest Period will be disqualified.

How to Enter

To enter the Contest, eligible students should do the following during the Contest Period:

Come in costume to the Haunted Reading event.

Palm Bay Cabin Fever Costume Contest
Eligibility

The Palm Bay Cabin Fever Costume Contest (the "Contest") is open to currently enrolled Eastern Florida State College students taking at least one class who are legal residents of the fifty (50) United States or the District of Columbia and are at least eighteen (18) years old at the time of entry (or who submit a signed parent/guardian consent and release form). Employees (including student employees) of Eastern Florida State College (the "Sponsor") and other companies associated with the promotion of the Contest and their respective immediate families (spouses, parents, siblings, and children) and household members are not eligible to win.

Contest Period

To enter the Contest, eligible students should do the following during the Contest Period:

Come in costume to the Cabin Fever event. 

Participants will register for the contest via a sign-up sheet at the DJ booth on the day of the event.

Please Note: Costumes should be tasteful and appropriate for all ages.

Winner Selection

On 10/31/2024 at 09:00 PM ET, one or more entities working on behalf of the Sponsor will select the potential winner(s) in accordance with the judging criteria (creativity, originality, effort, authenticity, and overall impression on a point-based, 0-10 system determined by three costume contest judges) from among all eligible entries in the following location: Palm Bay Campus, Bldg. 2, Patio. The odds of being selected depend on the number of entries received. The Sponsor will attempt to notify the potential winner(s) via video conference, social media, email, telephone, or in person on or around 10/31/2024. If the potential winner(s) cannot be contacted within five (5) days, the Sponsor may select alternate potential winner(s) from among the remaining eligible entries. The Palm Bay Pumpkin Carving Contest (the "Contest") is open to currently enrolled Eastern Florida State College students taking at least one class who are legal residents of the fifty (50) United States or the District of Columbia and are at least eighteen (18) years old at the time of entry (or who submit a signed parent/guardian consent and release form). Employees (including student employees) of Eastern Florida State College (the "Sponsor") and other companies associated with the promotion of the Contest and their respective immediate families (spouses, parents, siblings, and children) and household members are not eligible to win.

Contest Period

The Contest begins on 10/31/2024 at 12:00 AM ET and ends on 10/31/2024 at 05:00 PM ET (the "Contest Period"). Entries that are submitted before or after the Contest Period will be disqualified.

Eligibility

The Annual Programming Competition (the "Contest") is open to currently enrolled Eastern Florida State College students taking at least one class who are legal residents of the fifty (50) United States or the District of Columbia and are at least eighteen (18) years old at the time of entry (or who submit a signed parent/guardian consent and release form). Employees (including student employees) of Eastern Florida State College (the "Sponsor") and other companies associated with the promotion of the Contest and their respective immediate families (spouses, parents, siblings, and children) and household members are not eligible to win.

Contest Period

The Contest begins on 08/12/2024 at 12:00 AM ET and ends on 11/01/2024 at 02:00 PM ET (the "Contest Period"). Entries that are submitted before or after the Contest Period will be disqualified.

How to Enter

To enter the Contest, eligible students should do the following during the Contest Period:

Students should self-register for the Computer Programming Competition Canvas Shell no later than Thursday, October 31st at 11:59 PM to participate in the event, which will be held on the Melbourne Campus in Bldg. 7 Rms. 308, 339, and 326-B on Friday, November 1st from 9 AM to 2 PM.

During the event, students will compete to solve up to five (5) computer programming problems over a three-hour period using any or all of the following languages: Java, C++, C#, or Python.

Each entrant is only eligible to win one (1) prize throughout the duration of the Contest, regardless of method of entry. Data pertaining to all entries become the property of the Sponsor and will not be acknowledged or returned.

Winner Selection

On 11/01/2024 at 01:15 PM ET, one or more entities working on behalf of the Sponsor will select the potential winner(s) in accordance with the judging criteria (most points earned) from among all eligible entries in the following location: Melbourne Campus, Bldg. 7, Rm. 339. The odds of being selected depend on the number of entries received.
