Promotions at EFSC

Eastern Florida State College regularly holds contests and drawings to give current students a chance to win prizes. Explore the list below for eligibility requirements, deadlines, how to enter, and more information about each promotion.

"Apollo in the Bay" Student Talent Show 

ELIGIBILITY

The "Apollo in the Bay" Student Talent Show (the "Contest") is open to currently enrolled Eastern Florida State College students who are legal residents of the fifty (50) United States or the District of Columbia and are at least eighteen (18) years old at the time of entry (or who submit a signed parent/guardian consent and release form). Employees of Eastern Florida State College (the "Sponsor") and other companies associated with the promotion of the Contest and their respective immediate families (spouses, parents, siblings, and children) and household members are not eligible to win.

CONTEST PERIOD

The Contest begins on Monday, January 9, 2023 at 6:00 AM ET and ends on Monday, February 27, 2023 at 8:00 PM ET (the "Contest Period"). Entries that are submitted before or after the Contest Period will be disqualified.

HOW TO ENTER

To enter, students will audition. Acts must be performance ready at auditions. Auditions will be held at the Palm Bay Campus Auditorium, Bldg. 1, Rm. 107 on: 

  • January 19, 2023 from 2 – 4 PM
  • January 31, 2023 from 2 – 4 PM
  • February 6, 2023 from 1 – 3PM
  • February 9, 2023 from 2 – 4 PM

The top acts will be selected to perform on Monday, February 27, 2023. The dress rehearsal for the show will be held Thursday, February 23, 2023 from 1 – 4 pm in the Palm Bay Campus Auditorium, Bldg. 1, Rm. 107. All students performing in the show must attend this rehearsal. 

WINNER SELECTION

On Monday, February 27, 2023, one or more entities working on behalf of the Sponsor will select the potential winner(s) in accordance with any judging criteria (highest number of points given from judges) from among all eligible entries. The odds of being selected depend on the number of entries received. The Sponsor will attempt to notify the potential winner(s) via video conference, social media, email, telephone, or in person on or around Monday, February 27, 2023. If the potential winner(s) cannot be contacted within five (5) days, the Sponsor may select alternate potential winner(s) from among the remaining eligible entries. Any prize having a total announced value of $5,000 or more must be offered in strict compliance with §849.094, Florida Statutes.

Winners will receive:

Prize retail value may differ at the time of award. The specifics of the prize(s) will be solely determined by the Sponsor. No cash or other prize substitution(s) will be permitted, except at the Sponsor's discretion. All prizes are non-transferable and subject to income tax. Any and all prize-related expenses, including without limitation, any and all federal, state, and/or local income taxes, shall be the sole responsibility of the winner. Any winner of a prize valued in excess of $600 at the time of award must provide their social security number, EIN, or TIN to Eastern Florida State College and shall receive an IRS Form 1099. Acceptance of a prize constitutes permission for the Sponsor to use a winner's name, likeness, and entry for purposes of advertising and promotion without further compensation, unless prohibited by law.

All prizes must be picked up in Palm Bay campus Auditorium, Bldg. 1, Rm. 107(250 Community College Pkwy SE, Palm Bay, FL 32909) within ten (10) days from the time of award notification.

Participation in the Contest further constitutes the entrant's full and unconditional agreement to these official rules including all additional terms and conditions.

Black History Month Essay Writing Contest

ELIGIBILITY

The Black History Essay Writing Contest (the "Contest") is open to currently enrolled Eastern Florida State College students who are legal residents of the fifty (50) United States or the District of Columbia and are at least eighteen (18) years old at the time of entry (or who submit a signed parent/guardian consent and release form). Employees of Eastern Florida State College (the "Sponsor") and other companies associated with the promotion of the Contest and their respective immediate families (spouses, parents, siblings, and children) and household members are not eligible to win.

CONTEST PERIOD

The Contest begins on Monday, January 16, 2023 at 12:00 AM ET and ends on Thursday, February 16, 2023 at 11:59 PM ET (the "Contest Period"). Entries that are submitted before or after the Contest Period will be disqualified.

HOW TO ENTER

To enter, students should email Dr. Synthia Doaks from their Titan email prior to the end of the event, which will be on Thursday, February 16, 2023 at 11:59 PM.

Students should write and submit an original essay between 600 and 1,000 words. It should be an informative piece about a little-known person, place, or invention in Black History. Students should explain what the fact is, why it is important to them, and why is it important to share this knowledge with our community.

Essays less than 600 words will be disqualified. 

Each entrant is only eligible to win one (1) prize throughout the duration of the Contest. Data pertaining to all entries become the property of the Sponsor and will not be acknowledged or returned.

WINNER SELECTION

On or around Wednesday, February 22, 2023, one or more entities working on behalf of the Sponsor will select the potential winner(s) in accordance with any judging criteria (content, organization, grammar and mechanics, and word count) from among all eligible entries. The odds of being selected depend on the number of entries received. The Sponsor will attempt to notify the potential winner(s) via video conference, social media, email, telephone, or in person on or around Thursday, February 23, 2023. If the potential winner(s) cannot be contacted within five (5) days, the Sponsor may select alternate potential winner(s) from among the remaining eligible entries. Any prize having a total announced value of $5,000 or more must be offered in strict compliance with §849.094, Florida Statutes.

Black History Month Movie: "The Woman King" Drawing

ELIGIBILITY

The Black History Month Movie: "The Woman King" Drawing (the "Drawing") is open to currently enrolled Eastern Florida State College students who are legal residents of the fifty (50) United States or the District of Columbia and are at least eighteen (18) years old at the time of entry (or who submit a signed parent/guardian consent and release form). Employees of Eastern Florida State College (the "Sponsor") and other companies associated with the promotion of the Contest and their respective immediate families (spouses, parents, siblings, and children) and household members are not eligible to win.

CONTEST PERIOD

The Contest begins on Monday, January 31, 2023 at 12:00 AM ET and ends on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at 5:30 PM ET (the "Drawing Period"). Entries that are submitted before or after the Contest Period will be disqualified.

HOW TO ENTER

To enter, students should visit the the Black History Month Movie event on the Palm Bay Campus (Bldg. 1, Titan Hall) during the Drawing Period.

ALTERNATIVE METHOD OF ENTRY

To enter, students should email the Palm Bay Office of Student Life from their Titan email prior to the end of the event, which will be on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at 5:30 PM.

On or around Tuesday, February 7, 2023, one or more entities working on behalf of the Sponsor will select the potential winner(s) in accordance with any judging criteria from among all eligible entries.
