Transfer Credit Guidelines
Eastern Florida State College (EFSC) makes every effort to recognize college-level
coursework you’ve already completed. If you have attended another college or university,
you may be eligible to transfer credits toward your EFSC degree or certificate—helping
you stay on track without repeating coursework.
Who Is Eligible?
To receive transfer credit, you must:
- Be degree-seeking at EFSC
- Declare an eligible program of study
- Submit official, final transcripts from all previously attended institutions
Transfer credit is evaluated only after you apply and are admitted to EFSC.
How Transfer Credit Is Evaluated
Step 1: Submit Official Transcripts
You must have your final, official transcripts sent from each institution you attended
directly to the EFSC Registrar’s Office.
- In-progress coursework and unofficial transcripts cannot be used for awarding transfer credit
- These documents may be reviewed for academic advising or placement only
You are advised to submit transcripts at least six weeks before the beginning of the semester.
You play an active role in collecting required data for evaluation and may be asked
to provide documentation from your previous institution(s) about course content, faculty
credentials, textbooks or other criteria used in the evaluation process.
Step 2: Credit Evaluation
The Office of the Registrar evaluates all transfer coursework. If needed, the Registrar
consults with the appropriate academic department to determine course equivalency.
An email is sent to your student EFSC email account the evening when a transcript
evaluation is completed. You can view the applicability of transfer work to the degree
through the myGPS degree audit on myEFSC portal.
Step 3: Credit Posted
Approved transfer credit is posted to your permanent EFSC academic record.
General Transfer Credit Guidelines
- Transfer credit counts toward course attempts
- Transfer grades do not calculate into your EFSC cumulative GPA
- Courses that meet program requirements apply directly to your degree
- Courses that do not apply may be accepted as elective credit, when appropriate
- A maximum of 75% of your program may be completed through transfer or prior learning credit
Transfer Credit from U.S. Accredited Institutions
EFSC accepts transfer credit from colleges and universities accredited by agencies
recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDOE).
Florida Statewide Course Numbering System (SCNS)
Courses completed at Florida institutions participating in the Statewide Course Numbering
System (SCNS) will transfer when applicable to your EFSC program.
The college will follow the guidelines provided by the Statewide Course Numbering
System (SCNS) in awarding credit for courses taken at non-public institutions participating
in the SCNS. Click for a pdf about the SCNS or visit the SCNS online.
Evaluation Criteria for Courses not in SCNS
Courses are reviewed based on:
- Course content and learning outcomes
- Institutional accreditation recognized by the U.S. Department of Education
- Alignment with EFSC curriculum and academic standards
- Age of the course
- Other supporting documentation such as faculty credentials
Grades Required
- A grade of “C” or higher is required for transfer
- Transfer grades appear on your record as TA, TB, or TC
Courses That Do Not Transfer
- Developmental education courses
- Withdrawn or audited courses
- Courses with grades of D or F
A grade of “D” may be considered only by written student request. If approved, the
course will count toward GPA and appear as a “D” on the academic record.
Quarter-Hour Institutions
If your previous institution used quarter hours:
- Quarter hours are converted to semester hours using this formula:
Quarter hours × 0.66 = Semester hours - A course must be at least 4 quarter hours to equal a 3-credit EFSC course
- Courses not meeting equivalency may be awarded elective credit
International Coursework
International coursework may be considered for transfer credit.
What to Submit
Course-by-course evaluation (in English) from a NACES-approved credential evaluation
service.
Credit is awarded when coursework aligns with EFSC program offerings and degree requirements.
