Material & Chemical Safety

Properly handling all materials & chemicals is key to safety.

The College is committed to providing a safe environment for the use of all chemicals through compliance with the Hazardous Communication Standard maintained by the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration and Florida’s Right to Know law. The College follows the EFSC Hazardous Waste Contingency Plan in the event of an emergency.

Safety Data Sheets (SDS), formerly known as Material Safety Data Sheets [MSDS], for all required items are available on each College computer via the online program MSDS Online. The online system is the only official system allowed by the College and provides electronic and physical SDS for all chemicals maintained and utilized by the College. The SDSs provide the information necessary to properly manage and utilize chemicals.

Those working with chemicals and hazardous materials are expected to comply with all safety recommendations specified in the SDS, including the use of proper safety equipment, and following the sheet's specified means and methods for safe handling.
