Students Open Doors to Research Careers

Students from Eastern Florida State College recently presented their research projects at the Florida Undergraduate Research Conference 2015 at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, gaining a new awareness in career opportunities.

Some 23 students attended the meeting in Daytona Beach, with eight students presenting their work on subjects including crop growth and water quality.

They were joined by Dr. Ashely Spring, Dr. Lynta Thomas and Scott Herber from the Melbourne campus and Dr. Warren Jones from the Titusville campus.

“Opportunity comes at you in waves when you socialize and network with people who are driven to achieve and display their ambitions,” said student Nick O’Daniel. “It made it clear to me that the hard work you put into molding your career will and can payoff in many different ways.

Other students were equally excited about their participation.

“I learned how many research opportunities are out there for students to apply for,” said Morgan Enoch. “I now have a better understanding that research is never ending, there is always room to grow.”

Marie Rener added the conference “confirmed my long-term desire of becoming a medical doctor” while Leah Coleman said “it opened my mind to many more fields than just the one I am currently focused on.”

"I am very proud of our students,” said Herber. “ They did such an awesome job. It helped advance their knowledge beyond the walls of our institution and gave them insight into the future."
