Support to generate success
TRiO Student Support Services at Eastern Florida State College provides academic support for eligible students to help them stay in college until they complete their degree or certificate.
This federal program serves first-generation college students (students whose natural or adoptive parents have not completed a bachelor's degree), students with low taxable income, and/or students with a disability, all of whom must have an academic need. TRiO is not an acronym as commonly believed, but rather a program identifier used to include categories of pre-collegiate and collegiate programs that are located throughout the United States.
Eastern Florida's TRiO services include:
- Academic Advisement
- Advocacy for Student Rights
- Career Assessment
- Coordination with EFSC's Disability Services (SAIL) Team
- Financial Aid Information
- College and University Tours
- Cultural Enrichment Activities
- Email Updates
- Graduation Degree Audits
- Mentoring Support
- Midterm Progress Reports
- Schedule Planning and Registration
- Scholarship Research
- Supplemental Grant Aid
- Supplemental Instruction (Math only)
TRiO Student Support Services at Eastern Florida State College began in 1973 and has aided more than 7,000 students and counting during its tenure. The College's TRiO- Student Support Services program is one of eight federally funded TRiO Programs. There are more than 1,024 such programs nationwide, including 28 in Florida. These programs are found at community colleges, state colleges, public or private universities, historically black colleges and universities, Hispanic-serving colleges and universities and tribal colleges.
Students who participate in the TRiO Student Support Services program are more than twice as likely to remain in college as students from similar backgrounds who did not participate in the program, according to research.
