Economics instructor Donovan Cox has received the Faculty Mentoring Award for his work with fellow faculty members at Eastern Florida State College.

Cox began teaching at EFSC part-time in 2013 and has been a full-time faculty member since 2014.

He teaches economics courses at the associate degree and Bachelor of Applied Science levels. He is currently the Program Manager for the Associate in Science business courses.

The honor includes a $1,000 award funded through the generosity of donors to the Eastern Florida State College Foundation.

“Donovan’s outstanding work in the classroom is matched by his work with faculty members who benefit from his experience and insight,” said college President Dr. Jim Richey.

“We’re fortunate to have him with us showing the commitment to teaching and student success that is a hallmark of EFSC.”

Cox was nominated for the 2021 award by Jill Bloomstine, an accounting instructor who he mentored.

He sums up his advice to mentees this way:

“Focus on what's right in front of you first, namely, your course-preparation and your students. Once a teacher feels that things are going well in the classroom, they are much more likely to be excited and confident about contributing to the college in other ways as well.”

Cox has served on several college committees, including the Tenure Council and Study Abroad program. He is also the founder and co-sponsor of the EFSC Sigma Beta Delta Business Honor Society.
