Students in Eastern Florida State College's First Year Experience (FYE) collegewide initiative successfully launched their inaugural semester at the Fall 2025 Welcome and Field Day events, held August 13th and 14th on the Melbourne Campus.
Designed for first-time in college high school grads, former dual enrolled students, transfer students, and bachelor students, FYE connects students with peers, support services, and college culture, with subsequent activities scheduled throughout the year.
“I feel more comfortable at the College now,” said Bella Iosua, a student who attended the Welcome event. “My favorite parts were the trivia games and meeting new people. The staff are also really nice and welcoming.”
Students like Iosua picked up a free Welcome Kit (including a t-shirt and other college swag), then spent the first hour visiting tables for each department, making connections with the College staff and getting questions answered.
Afterward, all students gathered as a group for an info session featuring speakers that included Dr. Barbara Kennedy, Dean of Student Affairs, and Dr. Phil Simpson, VP of Academic & Student Affairs.
The following day, students participated in FYE’s Field Day event, which included a food truck, ice cream, outdoor games, water activities, and more.
For one student, the best part of FYE was: “Getting that good feeling of comfort that anyone could be there for you. I’m scared of college no longer!”
