Creative Nail Art Brings Cell Types to Life

December 11, 2025
Keyly Argueta took her General Biology (BSC 1010) extra credit project to the next level by transforming her knowledge of cell types into a unique set of handcrafted nail designs. Combining her passion for detailed nail artistry with the course’s lessons, she created sculpted nails representing five types of living cells, using hard molding gel, hand painting, and UV-curing techniques.
Keyly shared that she has spent three years developing her skills as a full specialist and nail technician. She now works as a level-three artist, known for detailed, sculpted nail work. “My mind goes into a Zen mode when I am creating art, and I like to think this is the most fun job yet,” she said. Before discovering her artistic path, she spent five years working in the food industry and knew she wanted something more creative and fulfilling.
She explained that the biology project opened the door for her to merge her artistic talent with her academic journey. “My professor asked us to do anything biology-related, even something that connected to makeup, and that is when my mind opened even more. I created this masterpiece representing five living cells,” she said. She added that classmates from other courses even used her project as inspiration.
Keyly is currently working toward her AA or AS degree and hopes to enter the health science field. She is open to where her path leads and shared that she might even pursue dermatology in the future. “I like to remind myself that where the stars shine, that is where I need to reach,” she said.
Her instructor nominated her for Trending Titan recognition for going above and beyond in creativity and scientific understanding.
“Go Titans,” Keyly added with pride.
