Strengthening Aerospace Education

March 02, 2026
Recently, members of our Engineering Technologies and Drafting and Design teams visited L3Harris to advance a collaborative initiative focused on strengthening Brevard County’s aerospace talent pipeline. Working alongside leaders from L3Harris and Northrop Grumman, Eastern Florida State College faculty are identifying curriculum gaps, developing new course content, potentially a new CCC program, and aligning programs with evolving workforce needs tied to major government contracts in our region.
Dr. Carlos Velazquez, Director, Hardware Engineering/HCAD & STE Design Space and airborne systems for L3 Harris Technologies, shared that strengthening entry-level pipelines for critical engineering skills is essential in today’s competitive market.
This initiative focuses on PCB, cable, and electronic packaging design, highly specialized engineering areas where industry partners anticipate significant workforce shortages. Through hands-on industry engagement, curriculum updates, and structured interview-to-employment pathways, EFSC is helping ensure graduates are prepared for high-demand careers right here at home. As part of this effort, Northrop Grumman will support a wiring harness course in the CITE building this fall. Students who meet the prerequisites for the limited-access course will have the opportunity to interview prior to the class and, upon successful completion, secure employment locally.
Kudos to Daniel Mondshein, Collegewide Chair of CTE: Computer Science and Advanced Technologies, along with instructors Korie Carter and Mike Ennis, and the entire team for representing EFSC with excellence and forward-thinking leadership. Their work is making a meaningful impact on our students and strengthening the future workforce of Brevard County and beyond.
