EFSC Fire Science Academy Instructor Honored by Space Coast Fire Chiefs Association

Eastern Florida State College announced that Teresa Uzel has been named the 2025 Instructor of the Year by the Space Coast Fire Chiefs Association (SCFCA).

The annual honor recognizes professionals whose dedication to students and commitment to the fire service community stand above the rest.

“As president of the Space Coast Fire Chiefs Association, it was an honor to recognize the outstanding dedication and professionalism of Ms. Uzel,” said City of Titusville Fire Chief John Hustoles, President of the SCFCA. “We are proud to celebrate her achievements and are inspired by the positive difference she makes throughout the Space Coast.”

The SCFCA works to strengthen collaboration, communication, and coordination among more than 15 municipal and county fire agencies along Florida’s Space Coast. Its recognition program highlights individuals in the fire service community who exemplify service, leadership, and professionalism.

A retired Brevard County Fire Lieutenant, Uzel has served as an adjunct instructor at EFSC for more than 20 years, earning the respect of faculty, staff, and students alike.

“I am honored by this recognition,” said Uzel. “However, the true credit belongs to the firefighters who show up each day eager to learn and committed to excellence.”

EFSC President Jim Richey praised Uzel’s recognition, noting the impact of her long-standing service. “Teresa Uzel represents the very best of Eastern Florida State College,” said Richey. “Her expertise, passion for teaching, and unwavering commitment to public safety have shaped countless students who now serve our community with distinction. We are extremely proud of her and grateful for her leadership in the Fire Science Academy.”
