Six Eastern Florida State College students have been named to the 2021 All-Florida Academic Team for their outstanding scholarship and work in the community.

The All-Florida Academic Team consists of 137 students from the 28-member Florida College System that includes Eastern Florida.

The students were nominated by their colleges and selected based on high achievement in the classroom, leadership on campus and service to the community.

“The accomplishments of these students are exceptional, especially in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic that presented them with unprecedented challenges and hurdles,” said college President Dr. Jim Richey.

“They not only persevered but excelled, showing that anything is possible despite adversity. Everyone at EFSC is extremely proud of them.”

The students chosen include a mother and daughter from the Palm Bay campus. Regina Dutcher is a former high school teacher who is on track to transition to teaching elementary school. Her daughter Robin will graduate in May with a Chemical Technology A.S. degree and begin an EFSC Bachelor of Applied Science program this summer.

Here are details on all six students and their areas of study:

  • Regina Dutcher – Palm Bay Campus, Associate in Science Degree, Early Childhood Education and Educator Preparation Institute (EPI)
  • Robin Dutcher – Palm Bay Campus, Bachelor of Applied Science Degree, Applied Health Sciences - Biomedical Science Specialization

The Florida College System will honor the students April 23 during a Virtual 2021 All-Florida Academic Team Awards Ceremony that will be webcast.

The Florida awards are part of the All-USA Academic Team competition sponsored by the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society.

All-Florida Academic Team students are eligible for additional scholarship opportunities at Florida universities and are considered for scholarships sponsored by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation, ranging in value from $1,000 - $5,000, which can be used to continue their education anywhere in the nation.
