Community Orchestra Presents 'Poems and Pirates' Concert

The Eastern Florida Community Orchestra concert on April 30 will include musical themes that range from weddings to pirates, including well-known overtures from two popular operas.

“Poems & Pirates” will be presented on Thursday, April 30 at 7:30 p.m. in the Bernard W. Simpkins Fine Arts Center (Bldg. 4) on the Cocoa Campus, located at 1519 Clearlake Road.

Under the direction of conductor, James Bishop, the community orchestra will present "Wedding Day at Troldhaugen" by Grieg, written in 1896 to commemorate his 25th wedding anniversary; "The Marriage of Figaro Overture," the comic opera's well-known and fast-based overture composed by Mozart; "Die Moldau," a symphonic poem by Smetana; and "The Pirates of Penzance Overture" by Sullivan, from the Gilbert and Sullivan comic opera of the same name.

General admission is $6. Tickets will be available at the door.
