Artists Sought for Titusville Campus Spring Art Exhibition

March 16, 2015

The Eastern Florida State College Titusville Campus will host its 5th Annual Growing with the Arts Spring Art Exhibition from April 13 through May 8.

Artists of all ages and their families and friends will gather on Monday, April 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Titusville Campus Library (Bldg. 5) for the exhibit's Opening Night Reception.

Artists are needed and encouraged to enter the show by dropping off up to three works of display-ready art to the Titusville Campus Library (Bldg. 5) no later than Friday, April 10 at 5 p.m.

There is no fee for entry.

The display will be open to the public during library hours.

The exhibition will include art work from children up to age 13 years, and adults age 14 and up.

The work of the adult artists will be judged based on originality and mastery of the medium used. All child entrants will receive a ribbon for participation, and adults will compete for ribbons and a Best of Show grand prize of a Kindle Fire.

This year’s exhibition will feature works by two professional artists on staff at Eastern Florida State College: Marilyn Cook, Manager of Training and Development and a Photography Instructor, and Caberbe “CJ” Joseph, Photography Instructor.

In her photography, Cook uses both natural forms and manufactured objects that reflect and refract light in order to create new relationships and realities.

In his theatrical photography — bordering on performance art — Joseph creates psychological tensions through use of costumes, elaborate sets and stage designs, all the while directing his models and performers.

Both photographers will present selected images to surprise and engage their audience.

“This is our fifth year of hosting the Spring Art Show and each year it has grown bigger and bigger,” said Cheryl Whalen, Library Specialist. “Over 300 people came out to see the show last year and we hope to attract even more viewers this year.”

Said EFSC Librarian Joanne Connell:  “We look forward every spring to this collaboration between the Student Government Association, the College Library and the Brevard artist community to showcase the arts and artists young and old.”

Light refreshments will be served at April 20 Opening Night Reception, which is free and open to the public.
