EFSC to Host Award-Winning Movie Screening

October 27, 2014

The Humanities Department on Eastern Florida State College’s Cocoa Campus will host a free, theatrical screening of "Alive Inside" on Monday, November 17 at 6 p.m. in the Simpkins Fine Arts Center.

"Alive Inside" is a cinematic exploration of music’s capacity to touch the deepest parts of humanity.

Filmmaker Michael Rossato-Bennett chronicles the experiences in the lives of people around the country who were revitalized by the simple experience of listening to music.

The film reveals the human connection found in music and how its healing power can have an impact when medicine falls short.

An “Audience Award” winner at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival, the documentary explores the life of social worker Dan Cohen, founder of the non-profit organization Music & Memory, as he fights to demonstrate music’s ability to combat memory loss and restore a sense of self to those suffering from the condition.
