National Researcher Featured at EFSC Dyslexia Seminar

A national expert on helping students with dyslexia learn and succeed in the classroom will be the featured speaker Oct. 15 during a seminar at Eastern Florida State College.

Dr. Tim Conway, a leading scholar in learning difficulties, will discuss the causes, treatments and long-term outcomes for children and adults with dyslexia.

Conway teaches at the University of Florida in Gainesville and works in areas including the Office of Student Life, Disability Resource Center and Department of Speech, Language and Language Science.

The “Improving Success for Students with Dyslexia” seminar will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Auditorium (Building 4) on Eastern Florida’s Melbourne Campus. It’s sponsored by the college’s Center for Teaching Excellence and is free and open to students, faculty and the public.

“We’re fortunate to have Dr. Conway here to talk about this important topic and invite anyone at the college and in the community who is interested to attend,” said Barbara Kennedy, academic dean for the Center for Teaching Excellence.

“We have so many students who struggle with dyslexia and other problems and may not know why. The seminar is a chance for anyone impacted by learning difficulties to gain new insights that can make a difference in improving their lives.”
