Welcome Back Set for Aug. 14 at King Center

The annual Welcome Back event for faculty and staff signaling the start of the Fall Term will be held Thursday, Aug. 14 at the King Center for the Performing Arts on the Melbourne campus.

The morning will include a 10 a.m. program featuring Eastern Florida State College President Dr. Jim Richey and other speakers who will provide updates on several subjects.

They include the college’s seven new Bachelor Degree tracks starting this month, developmental education, campus security and the latest information from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

Afternoon faculty information sessions and workshops will focus on such topics as veteran students, enhancing STEM curriculum, the new Undergraduate Research Program and making the college’s Website mobile friendly for smart phones and tablets.

There will also be a Canvas Open Lab available for those registered through Canvas, the college's new Learning Management System.

Here is the schedule:

  • 9 a.m.: Cluster Chair meeting
  • 10 a.m.: Welcome Back program
  • 11 a.m.-noon: Staff lunch, gym
  • Noon-1 p.m.: Faculty lunch, gym
  • 1-4 p.m. Faculty workshops

An important reminder that staff will begin five-day work weeks effective Aug. 11-22 to accommodate registration and the course drop/add process. Employees should plan to work eight hour days with a one hour lunch.

The regular nine hour, four-day week will resume Monday, Aug. 25.
