EFSC Professor Earns Leadership Award

Eastern Florida State College professor Dr. Carol Bourke has received the 2013 Outstanding Leadership Award by the Southern Business Education Association (SBEA).

The award was presented to Dr. Bourke at an awards luncheon during the SBEA Convention in Williamsburg, Virginia on Sat., Oct. 12.

The honor is bestowed annually on an SBEA member engaged in business education as a classroom teacher, administrator and/or supervisor at the secondary, postsecondary (two-year), collegiate (senior college or university) or administration/supervision level. The recipient’s contributions must be shown to exhibit leadership in business education and the SBEA.

“Being notified that I was the recipient of this prestigious honor brought tears of happiness,” said Bourke.

“It's humbling to receive the Leadership Award, and it is due to my supportive family, the people I work with at the college and colleagues I serve with on professional organizations. These folks have been my cheerleaders, mentors and supporters. They make me look good!”

Bourke is an educator with more than 36 years of classroom experience. She has been with Eastern Florida State College for the past 30 years and currently serves as the Chairman of Technologies for the Cocoa campus. Prior to that position, she was Chairman of the Business Department at the college. She will retire in Dec. of this year.

Bourke holds an Ed.D. Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Central Florida, a Master of Arts Degree in Business Education from Governors State University in University Park, IL and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Education from Olivet Nazarene College, Kankakee, IL..
