Art Exhibit Features Faculty Talent

September 24, 2013

Artwork created by Eastern Florida State College faculty members will be the focus of an upcoming show at the Maxwell C. King Center for the Performing Arts on the Melbourne campus.

The Faculty Art Exhibit runs Sept. 30 through Oct. 28 in the Harris Corporation Lobby Gallery. It will include sculpture in ceramics, paper and fibers as well as painting and digital media.

Featured artists include Robert Canger, Bobbie McMillan, Lynn Spencer and Joanna White. Exhibiting faculty teach courses in the fields of Humanities, Graphic Technology and Studio Art.

“Students are naturally curious to see the type of artwork their professors are creating,” says Joanna White, Program Coordinator for the Art Department. “We put this faculty show together once a year to share the application of our artistic research with the students and local community.”

Students taking art-related courses on the Melbourne campus visit the Faculty Exhibit with their classes.

In addition to the annual Faculty Exhibit, the Eastern Florida State College Melbourne campus also hosts a Juried Student Art Exhibit, held each year in April at the King Center. This exhibit is open to all current students who have taken an academic art class at the college in the past two years.

The Eastern Florida Art Department offers courses in Drawing, Figure Drawing, Painting, Ceramics, Design, Printmaking, and Sculpture. Students are able to take some of the core art courses required for four-year degrees in fields such as Graphic Design, Interior Design, Fashion Design, Art Education, Art Therapy and Studio Art.

The Faculty Art Exhibit will be open to the public on Oct. 2, 10, 16 and 24 from 4 - 6 p.m.

It will also be available for viewing during King Center Performances to ticketed patrons, as well as to students who visit the gallery with their classes.
