Mobile Device Users Benefit from New Titan-Mobile App

August 13, 2013

Eastern Florida State College has gone mobile through a new phone app that allows mobile device users to view the college’s latest news and events.

The free Titan-Mobile app also allows students to check grades and class schedules from their smart phone or tablet.

The app is currently available for iPhone, iPad and Android devices. It can be downloaded from the Apple App Store for iPhones and iPads, and from the Google Play Shop for Android devices.

“Titan-Mobile represents the college’s ongoing efforts to respond to the changing digital needs of our students and community,” said Eastern Florida President, Dr. Jim Richey.

“National research continues to show rapid growth in the use of smart phones and tablets, especially among young adults who increasingly use a mobile device for all of their website browsing.

“Titan-Mobile will deliver information to students and others the way they want it — immediately, and at their fingertips.”

Titan-Mobile’s current features include:

  • Interactive Google maps of all four campuses
  • Instructor contact information/campus phone directory
  • Secure access to student grades and schedules
  • Campus security and safety information
  • Event information and news updates
  • Athletics news for EFSC’s nine intercollegiate sports
  • Access to the mobile Library site
  • Connections to the college’s social media tools

Titan-Mobile was built on a mobile app framework provided by the college’s Student Services System, Banner, and enhanced by the Eastern Florida Information Technologies team.

“We gave it our own flavor and added functions that we wanted it to provide,” said Betsy Wetzel, Associate Vice President for Information Technologies. “We’ll continue to add features based on feedback from the app’s users.”

Eastern Florida students, faculty and staff provided input during the app’s development through focus groups and can continue to provide feedback and suggestions through an online form on the college’s website.
