BCC Event to Help Fight Childhood Hunger

May 23, 2013

Volunteers are needed for a food packaging event at the Brevard Community College Melbourne Campus gym on Sunday, June 2 that will involve packaging meals to help feed hungry children during the summer.

Face of Change, The Children’s Hunger Project, United Way and Brevard Hunger Alliance/Project HUNGER are hosting the event at the gym, which is Building 6 on the Melbourne Campus, 3865 North Wickham Road.

The assembled meals will have a significant impact over the summer on the malnutrition and hunger problem with young children in Brevard County.

Volunteers will assemble more than 100,000 rice and bean meals and more than 6,000 complete packages of food such as those provided each weekend to children at elementary schools. None of the food will leave Brevard County and will be distributed to county children over the summer.

Volunteers are still being sought to work in teams in one- to two-hour shifts from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
