BCC Again Chosen to Host National Soccer Championship

April 17, 2013

Brevard Community College and Space Coast Sports Promotions will host the NJCAA Division I Women's Soccer National Championship Tournament for the next four years, providing an important boost to the Brevard County economy.

The dates for 2014-2016 were awarded to Brevard at last week's NJCAA meetings in Idaho.

The tournament will be played on BCC's Melbourne Campus on the new soccer field being constructed adjacent to Bruce Bochy Field, the Titans baseball facility.

The tournament dates are Nov. 18-23, 2013; Nov. 17-22, 2014; Nov. 16-21, 2015; Nov. 14-19, 2016.

“We’re very excited about hosting the tournament because it will allow us to showcase the college under our new name — Eastern Florida State College — to a national audience,” said BCC President, Dr. Jim Richey. “It will also boost the Brevard economy by at least $1 million a year, helping many local businesses and further demonstrating the important role the college plays along the Space Coast.”

BCC Athletic Director and head women's soccer coach Jeff Carr also lauded the tournament, saying it features some of the best soccer players in the nation and will draw increased attention to BCC’s growing athletic programs.

“The tournament is a real honor for our coaches, our players and our college,” he said. “We couldn’t be happier with the decision.”

BCC and Space Coast Sports hosted the 2011 and 2012 national tournaments at Melbourne Central Catholic.

BCC's women did not qualify for the 2011 tournament but reached the final of the 2012 tournament where they lost 3-0 to Paradise Valley Community College of Arizona.

The tournament in 2012 was contested by 12 junior college teams from around the nation. The NJCAA, the governing body for intercollegiate sports at junior college institutions, has more than 500 members in 43 states.
