Former Titan Baseball Great Returns to World Series

October 23, 2012

October 23, 2012 - Brevard Community College's baseball program will be represented in Major League Baseball's World Series for the third time by former Titans standout Bruce Bochy.

Bochy manages the National League champion San Francisco Giants who begin the World Series against the American League champion Detroit Tigers on Wednesday.

He managed the Giants to the World Series championship in 2010 and was the manager of the San Diego Padres when they were swept in the World Series in 1998 by the New York Yankees.

Bochy, who grew up in Melbourne, was an All-American catcher for the 1975 BCC team that won a state championship under head coach Jack Kenworthy. Following his time at BCC he played for Florida State University and was drafted by the Houston Astros in 1975. Bochy ended his career as a Major League player with the San Diego Padres in 1987, going on to serve as the Padres manager for 12 years before heading to the Giants.

The BCC baseball field on the Melbourne campus is named in Bochy's honor. Construction has begun on a new 1,200-square foot clubhouse at the field that will include lockers for players and coaches, showers, a baseball office and storage. Completion of the facility is expected by Dec. 15, providing plenty of lead time heading into the Titans 2013 season that begins in January.
