America's 250th Anniversary & Constitution Day

Honoring 250 Years of the United States

Eastern Florida State College is proud to commemorate America's 250th Anniversary through a variety of educational, cultural, artistic, and community-centered events across our campuses.

The semiquincentennial marks 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Throughout 2025 and 2026, Eastern Florida State College students, faculty, and staff will participate in educational, cultural, artistic, veteran-focused, and civic engagement activities recognizing the 250th Anniversary of the United States. Additional programs and events will be added as planning continues.

Veterans Day Tribute Displays (November 2025)

The Military and Veterans Services Department will create commemorative Veterans Day flag displays on each campus. Students will be invited to honor veterans by writing their names on commemorative tags that will be attached to flags within the displays.

America 250th Hot Dog Day

The Military and Veterans Services Department will re-theme its annual Hot Dog Day as an America 250th celebration, incorporating patriotic activities and educational elements honoring the nation's 250-year milestone.

Student Life Events (August 2026 - November 2026)

Office of Student Life programs will incorporate America 250th branding and historical themes, including:

  • Welcome Back activities
  • Black History Month events
  • Women's History Month events
  • Hispanic Heritage Month events
  • Earth Day celebrations
  • Additional campus engagement opportunities

Faculty partners will help provide historical context connecting each event to America's continuing story.

Student Awards Ceremony (April 23, 2026)

The annual student awards ceremony will recognize America's 250th Anniversary through event décor and thematic elements celebrating this historic milestone.

Independence Celebration (July 1, 2026)

Join us in the recreation area behind Building 12 for:

  • Grilled hamburgers and hot dogs
  • Yard games
  • Educational activities about American independence
  • Community-building opportunities for students

Students can cool off while celebrating America's 250th anniversary with patriotic-themed snow cone events hosted on each EFSC campus.

Constitution Day 2026

Celebrate Constitution Day 2026 at EFSC, an important occasion that honors the signing of the United States Constitution on September 17, 1787. Join us in commemorating this historic milestone and the enduring principles that shape our nation's governance.

We're planning our 2026 event to include a variety of exciting activities and celebrations, including:

Writing the America Dream (Hosted by EFSC Creative Writing Clubs)

Hosted by the Creative Writing Clubs on the Cocoa and Palm Bay campuses, the "Writing the American Dream" contest will feature poetry and prose categories with three winners selected in each category. Open to students from all four EFSC campuses, the contest period begins at the start of the Fall Term in August. Constitution Day festivities will include performances of selected works, food, activities, and the announcement of contest winners.

Art Walk Through History

Presented in partnership with Professor Chris Muro and Professor Lynn Spencer, this special event on the Melbourne Campus will showcase student-created artwork inspired by key moments, people, and ideas in American history. Enjoy live performances by Dr. Robert Lamb's chorus, grilled food, and yard games alongside the student art exhibitions.
