What are the duties of a Respiratory Therapist?
A Respiratory Therapist acts, serves and responds to any and all emergencies involving every type of patient, regardless of location within the hospital. A Respiratory Therapist performs routine airway and pulmonary procedures in a compassionate manner which alleviates patient stress related to or caused by respiratory insults.
Is there a selective admission process for the program?
Yes. The Respiratory Care program admits 15 students per year. Please review the selection criteria for a detailed explanation of the entrance requirements.
Is an interview required?
Yes. Highly qualified candidates will be offered the opportunity to do a video interview
with the Respiratory Care selection committee. Invited students will be notified of
their opportunities after the application deadline.
When are students admitted to the program?
The application deadline is June 1st each year. The program begins every Fall Term
(August).
What is the total length of the program?
Students will be required to take all general education, all support courses, and
Intro to Respiratory Care prior to applying to the Respiratory program. The core classes
take five semesters to complete.
What time of day are classes offered?
Early mornings to early afternoon. Clinicals will be offered 2 days a week, evenings,
nights and weekends.
When do I start going to the hospital?
Students begin attending clinical rotations in their first Spring Term after entering
the program.
Can I re-enter the program if I withdraw or if removed?
Yes, but it is dependent on available seats. At no time can the EFSC Respiratory Care
program exceed the maximum capacity of 15 students.
