Eastern Florida State College Associate Professor of Business and Applied Technology Steven Barber has been named the recipient of the 2026 Distinguished Educator Award.

Recognized for his professionalism, expertise, and genuine dedication to student learning, Barber teaches courses in EFSC's Bachelor of Applied Science in Organizational Management program within the Human Resource Management specialization, aligning industry standards with curriculum.

One of his students anonymously praised Barber as someone who “creates a classroom environment that is fun, engaging, and informative.”

“Professor Barber has already had a meaningful impact on my success as a student,” she said. “His experience and expertise have helped me better understand practical HR processes, as well as important skills in networking and job searching. Outside of class, he remains accessible and supportive. It is an honor to nominate him for this award.”

“It is an absolute honor and privilege to have been nominated and recognized as this year's Distinguished Educator,” said Barber. “My primary purpose and goal are to have a positive impact on the lives of my students and colleagues in all that I do, so, to me, this is proof that I am doing just that. The recognition is both humbling and gratifying."

Nominations for the Distinguished Educator Award are submitted annually by EFSC faculty, staff, and currently enrolled students. The award includes a $1,500 honorarium provided by the EFSC Foundation.

“Distinguished educators inspire achievement through expertise, collaboration, self-reflection, and a steadfast focus on students,” said College President Dr. Jim Richey. “Steven Barber exemplifies these qualities through his passion for education and dedication to student success. His leadership and commitment make him an admirable example for others to follow and a deserving recipient of the 2026 Distinguished Educator honor.”

Presented by the EFSC Professional Development Council, the Distinguished Educator Award honors full-time faculty and librarians who demonstrate creativity, commitment, and innovation in helping students achieve their academic and career goals.
