Eastern Florida State College (EFSC) proudly announced that welding student Renee Ringer has been awarded a $4,000 scholarship, thanks to the generosity of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) Space Coast Chapter and Boys Electrical Contractors.

Ringer was initially presented with a $2,000 scholarship by NAWIC Space Coast Chapter President Kate Howick during the organization’s annual installation banquet.

“As we work to close the skilled labor gap, we’re proud to support Renee in her pursuit of welding certification at EFSC,” said Howick.

In a surprise gesture during the event, Kyle Nylander, President and CEO of Boys Electrical Contractors, matched the scholarship with an additional $2,000, bringing the total award to $4,000.

“There is no greater privilege than supporting an ambitious young person in pursuit of their goals,” said Nylander. “We are sincerely grateful to the outstanding community we serve, whose support enables us to assist Rene.”

Welding remains one of the most in-demand trades nationwide, especially on Florida’s Space Coast, where industries such as aerospace, defense, and manufacturing rely heavily on skilled labor. EFSC’s welding program is designed to meet this growing demand while equipping students with lifelong, transferable skills.

“We are deeply grateful to NAWIC and Boys Electrical Contractors for their generous support,” said EFSC President Dr. Jim Richey. “Professional welders are more essential than ever, particularly on the Space Coast and throughout Central Florida’s high-tech corridor. Our program ensures graduates are workforce-ready and prepared to thrive in these critical industries.”
