Welding Technology Certificate
Professional welders are more in demand than ever, especially in Brevard County and across Central Florida's aerospace, engineering, and high-tech corridor. Eastern Florida's Welding Technology Career and Technical Certificate (C.T.C.) program prepares students to enter the workforce as certified welders.
Welding is a high paying trade that requires extensive training, skill, and determination to master. Those who like designing and working with metal, and who are interested in fields such as materials engineering, aerospace manufacturing, robotics, lasers, computer programming, and systems integration will find abundant career opportunities in the field.
The Welding Technology program establishes a strong foundation of welding skills and knowledge by providing both the theoretical and practical, hands-on experience necessary for competency in the field.
Upon completion, students receive a career certificate which qualifies them for entry-level roles within the trade, plus graduates are eligible to take the industry-standard American Welding Society (AWS) certification exam.

Welding Technology Certificate - COURSE CURRICULUM
This full-time program starts in Fall Term each year and can be completed in under one year as two, 20-week terms. Classes run Monday - Thursdays on EFSC's Cocoa campus. Program instruction and course curriculum follow the standards, codes, and safety processes set by the American Welding Society (AWS), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), American Petroleum Institute (API), and American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
Welding Technology Certificate - Admissions Information
In addition to the general Eastern Florida enrollment process, admission to the Welding Technology CTC program requires a special application by the annual June 1st deadline. Students are selected for this limited access program based on an admission criteria point system. Detailed information about how to apply is in the drop-down accordion. Prospective students are encouraged to work closely with the program's advisor for personalized assistance.

Space is limited. Interested students should start by requesting the Welding Technology Information Package via email, which contains all application information.
Because this is a limited access program with a special application process, it's important for prospective students to receive answers to any questions from the program advisor.

Complete and properly submit the online general application to Eastern Florida State College. A $30 non-refundable fee must be submitted at the time of application. All general admissions requirements should then be completed with the main EFSC Admissions office.
Please note that application processing can take up to 14 days due to the current volume of applications. Check your email frequently for your acceptance letter.
NOTE: This step pertains ONLY to those students who are not currently enrolled at Eastern Florida. If you are a returning/readmist student who applied to EFSC one or more years ago, and have not completed a course in the past year, you must re-apply. This can be done online and you will not be charged the general EFSC application fee.
For new EFSC students, the general admissions acceptance letter and email will list the admissions requirements that must be completed. These must be done in a timely manner to avoid account holds that could prevent registration for courses, if accepted into the welding program. These general requirements can also be reviewed on EFSC's Accepted Students page.
Existing Eastern Florida students will also need to verify they do not have any holds that could prevent course registration if accepted into the program. Visit the Registration Holds webpage for details about what each hold means and how to clear them, plus how to check the EFSC Message Center to see if there are holds on your account.
Because this is a vocational clock-hours program, the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) is a program requirement unless the student is exempt.

After receiving the general EFSC admissions acceptance letter (or for current EFSC students), the final step is to complete the online Career & Technical/Trades program application. The general admissions acceptance letter includes the Student email address and password needed to log in to the application through the Titan Sign In Portal.
The limited access application is a mandatory, additional step to the general application process. This MUST be properly submitted by the application deadline. If assistance is needed with the online application, please contact the program advisor.
Brief Costs & Financial Aid Eligibility
In-state tuition for the Welding Technology clock-hours certificate program totals approximately $2,690. This does not include additional fees for course materials and lab fees. The program is eligible for Federal financial aid, plus students should apply for scholarships and Veteran's Educational Benefits, if that option applies.
College Courses You Would Take
Courses are split into two, clock-hour course completion groups, as students train to become certified welders in pipe and structural steel, as well as in ferrous and nonferrous base materials. Here are four of the courses you would take:
Learn to interpret weld symbols in accordance with AWS standards. Includes the fundamentals of drawing elements, scales, layouts, and title blocks.
Teaches the most basic principles with an emphasis on common metallurgical terms & processes & understanding distinctions between ferrous & nonferrous metals.
Introduces students to this welding process through hands-on practice. Students develop techniques for applying plasma arc cutting skills to nonferrous metals.
Covers basic pipe end prep & joint fit-up techniques, along with weld bead placement. Emphasis is on vertical hot fill & cap using 6" SCH80 carbon steel.

What do modern welders actually do?
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics — about two thirds of welding-related jobs are in manufacturing-related industries. Nearly everything we use in our daily life has involved welding, or was made by equipment that's been welded. From coffee pots to skyscrapers to space vehicles, welders help build all sort of metal products.
What types of jobs are available to welders?
For those with professional welding certifications, career path options are plentiful! Besides working as welders, those with experience and expertise in the field might also be a good fit for skilled positions as machinists, cutters, solderers, brazers, and/ or fitters. In construction, welders often work on core infrastructure projects — such as subways, bridges, and structural building elements. Welders can be found on oil rigs and refineries, at power plants of all varieties, assembling automobiles and aerospace products, and so much more.
High-Earning Potential, Unlocked!
Depending on their specialization and location, professional welders in Florida average base pay of $21 per hour and can earn much higher as they move through their careers. The highest paying welding jobs are typically found in industrial construction. Rig welders, pipe welders, underwater welders, tube welders, and combo welders are also typically high-paying positions.
