Become a Citizen Scholar
Go above and beyond in the Service-Learning program, and you can graduate with the coveted Citizen Scholar distinction! The requirements and benefits are outlined below. It is recommended that students contact the CSLCE to obtain information and deadlines for the Citizen Scholar program. All requirements must be completed and submitted to the CSLCE office one month prior to graduation.
Citizen Scholar Requirements
- 300 community service hours
- Ongoing reflective journal
- Three (3) Service-Learning class components OR 4th/5th credit hour options
- Three (3) credit hours of Community Service academic classes (i.e., SOW 2054 Community Involvement or SOW 1051/1052/1053 Human Service Experience I, II, III)
- Integrative final essay prior to graduation - view a sample essay
- 3.0 GPA
As a Citizen Scholar you will earn:
Recognition
- Cord of Distinction for graduation
- Special listing in graduation program
- Service hours on academic transcript
- Recognition at annual volunteer recognition event
- Letter from the College President
- Citizen Scholar’s certificate
