Dr. Pamela Christian, who teaches Oceanography and Geology, received an award for Outstanding Faculty Adjunct for her work with students.

Her many honors include a DuPont Teacher Excellence Award and selection for a North Carolina Earth Science Teacher fellowship.

She is also a Fellow in the American Science of Engineering Educators (ASEE) Science, Mathematics and Research for Transformation (SMART).

"As I continue to teach science at the college level, I strive to always make the heart and mind connection with my students. I aim for fun and rigor, subtly pushing them out of their comfort zones. To teach is to touch a life forever and, no matter how challenging it may be, I try to ensure my students’ success by ensuring they feel my gratitude each day I enter a classroom," said Christian.

Zandra Johnson, a non-traditional student pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, received an award for Outstanding Student.

She earned her Associate in Science Degree in Nursing from EFSC, began working as nurse and then returned to pursue her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.

She will graduate in December following a study aboard experience in Zambia that she said was “life altering.”
