COVID Vaccine Available to EFSC Students, Employees July 8

June 23, 2021 - Students, faculty and staff at Eastern Florida State College can receive free, walk-in COVID-19 vaccinations Thursday, July 8 on the Cocoa Campus.

The vaccinations will be given by the Florida Department of Health in Brevard County from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Building 11 Student Center main floor lobby area. Anyone age 18 and older is eligible. No college identification is needed.

Both the two-dose Moderna vaccine and one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine will be available. For those receiving Moderna, the second dose will be given in the same Building 11 location Aug. 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The vaccine is not required for students returning to campus for the Fall Term in August. However, it is strongly recommended to protect themselves and others from the highly contagious COVID delta variant now infecting many in the U.S.

The delta variant can make people sicker and lead to more hospitalizations than earlier variants, health officials say.

Health officials say the vaccination rate is severely lagging among those ages 18-35 in Florida and nationally, making it critical for more in that age group to become immunized.

This will be the second time vaccinations will be given at EFSC. In April, 140 students received shots on the Melbourne Campus. EFSC nursing students assisted in April and will be on hand again July 8.
