Brevard County Manager Moving to EFSC Team

February 2, 2017 - Brevard County Manager Stockton Whitten is joining Eastern Florida State College in the lead position to manage facilities, oversee the construction of new buildings and direct a variety of other special projects.

Whitten will become the Associate Vice President in charge of Facilities and Special Projects starting May 1.

In that role, he will oversee operations of the college’s 52 buildings that are spread across four campuses in Titusville, Cocoa, Melbourne and Palm Bay.

He will also direct building renovations and the construction of new buildings as part of the ongoing expansion at the Melbourne campus and other campuses.

The college opened a new Public Safety Institute in 2015 and new Health Sciences Institute in January in the Melbourne project’s first phase.

Next up at Melbourne is a new Student Union scheduled to open in 2018 and the later construction of a Center for Innovative Technology Education. The college also intends on building a Hospitality Management Center and structures for Student Housing.

“Stockton’s experience is impressive, with 25 years in senior executive positions in government that includes managing and motivating people at the highest level while simultaneously directing major renovation and construction work throughout Brevard,” said college President Dr. Jim Richey.

“He will play a key role as we continue adding new buildings and upgrading others to give our students and faculty the best educational facilities possible. We’re excited to have him join us.”

Whitten has served as Brevard County Manager since 2014. He previously held five other top county positions since 1994.

Under his leadership, 30 construction projects countywide have been accomplished in the past decade, including a 256-bed expansion of the Brevard County Jail and large-scale building renovation efforts.

“I’ve spent my entire career serving the public and joining Eastern Florida is a way to continue that commitment in the all-important world of higher education,” said Whitten.

Whitten has a Bachelor of Arts Degree and Master of Arts Degree from the University of Florida. He also has a Master of Business Administration Degree from Georgia Southern University.

Whitten will replace Dr. Richard Paradise, the current Associate Vice President for Facilities, who is retiring.
