Eastern Florida Honor Society Members Earn Awards

May 6, 2014 - Members of the Phi Theta Kappa Chi Nu Chapter Honor Society at Eastern Florida State College's Melbourne Campus recently brought home five awards from the Phi Theta Kappa International/Regional conference at Disney World in Orlando.

The four hallmarks to the society are scholarship, leadership, fellowship, and service. The Chi Nu Chapter's honors reflect them all. They received honors for both their College Project, which involved a beautification art competition for the campus, and its Honors in Action Project that raised almost $28,000 to purchase one dozen water purification systems that have been distributed all over the world.

The chapter was also named one of the top 10 distinguished chapters in Florida. There are 83 chapters statewide. Additionally, it was also named one of the top 100 chapters internationally out of 1,285, earning a Five-Star Level status. This is the highest status achievable by Phi Theta Kappa chapters.

All seven of Eastern Florida's chapter officers were present at the ceremony, including: Alexia Pearah, Chapter President; Christopher Logan, Chapter President-elect; Kim Santiago, VP of Leadership ; Michael Boring, VP of Service; Victoria Bakey, VP of Fellowship; Rachel Waldorff, VP of Scholarship; Raven Hancsak, Treasurer; Shannon McMenamin, VP of Service-elect; and Recording Secretary Kayla Duchaine.
