BCC Women's Soccer Achieves National First Place Ranking

September 5, 2012 - Brevard Community College's women's soccer team reached a milestone on Wednesday with the first No. 1 national ranking in its existence.

BCC, in its third year as a program, received 78 points and two first-place votes in the latest NJCAA Division I poll edging defending national champion and previously No. 1-ranked Tyler (TX) Junior College. Tyler received 77 points and two first-place votes.

BCC is 1-0 following its season-opening 4-0 victory over St. Louis Community College on Sept. 1 at Melbourne Central Catholic. Tyler is 1-0-1.

The BCC Titans travel to El Dorado, KS this weekend where they will play host and ninth-ranked Butler Community College (3-1) on Friday and Tyler on Saturday.

Interestingly, BCC is ranked 14th in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll while Tyler is ranked No. 1 and Butler No. 3.

Titans head coach Jeff Carr is looking at the big picture.

"Everyone has an opinion and so do the rankers in both polls," Carr said. "It is too early in the season to get caught up in the hype. It is a compliment to have your peers recognize your program.

"A lot of credit goes to our President Dr. Jim Richey and his vision for adding the soccer program and his continuing support, the players from the first two years and our present team and coaching staff. There is a lot of soccer to be played. The only poll that matters is the last one."
