Transfer Guidelines: Credit from Other Institutions
Eastern Florida State College will make every attempt to maximize a student’s past postsecondary academic history by carefully evaluating credits you want to transfer from another institution and applying them to equivalent Eastern Florida courses or using those transferred credits for electives in programs where applicable.
Life-Experience Acceleration Path (LEAP)
Students also may shorten their education by earning credit through acceleration mechanisms such as Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) which can lead to college credit through exams or certifications; or through prior work, life or military experience. At EFSC, we call the PLA process LEAP, or the Life-Experience Acceleration Path.
On-the-job experiences, corporate training, military training, volunteer work, or self-guided study: those may lead to college credit. Students whose prior learning has been recognized and awarded credit through the PLA process not only save time and money, they're also more motivated to persist and complete their degree.
Important Note: A maximum of 45 semester hours of combined accelerated credit and other non-traditional means of earning credit may be applied toward an associate's degree of 60 hours. Students transferring to another institution after being awarded accelerated credit should review the transfer guidelines maintained by the receiving institution. Transfer of credit awarded through any accelerated mechanism is dependent upon the policies of the other colleges and universities, even if the credit appears on a transcript from Eastern Florida. The decision to accept transfer credit is made by the receiving institution.
