Vascular Sonography Selection Criteria

Because the Vascular Sonography Applied Technology Certificate program has limited enrollment, admission is based on a point system. After the application deadline, files are sent to the Vascular Sonography program Selection Committee, where they are reviewed and points are carefully tabulated. All applicants must:
  1. Have at least a 2.5 GPA or higher by the application deadline
  2. Be registered/credentialed in one or more of the following:  American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), American Registry for Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), and/or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) - AND/OR -
  3. Be a graduate of a 2-year CAAHEP accredited program in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (General, Vascular, or Cardiac) plus successful completion of the Sonographic Physics and Instrumentation (SPI) board examination
  4. Be CPR certified
Points will be awarded as follows:
Health Science Advising Session 4 Points
Observation / Interview 5 Points
Essay (1-page) "Why I am choosing Vascular Sonography as a Career" 2 Points
ARDMS Registrations  
      Two or more ARDMS Registrations 10 Points
      ARRT Sonography   8 Points
      One ARDMS Registration  8 Points
      CCI Registration  8 Points
Health Education / Related Work Experience  
      Graduate with an Associate in Arts degree, Associate in Science degree, or an   
          Associate in Applied Science degree from a regionally accredited institution  
2 Points
      Military Service - two years or more 2 Points
      One year of full-time equivalent work in a healthcare position during the last two
          years, involving direct patient care
3 Points
      Graduate of a Health Science/Nursing program - Two semesters or more, with no 
          recent experience in direct patient care 
4 Points
      Graduate of a Health Sciences/Nursing Program - One semester or less, with 6
          months full-time work experience within the last two years involving direct
          patient care    
5 Points
      Graduate with a Bachelor's or Master's degree in any field from a regionally
          accredited institution
5 Points
      Graduate of a Health Sciences/Nursing Program - Two semesters or more, with 6
          months full-time work experience within the last two years involving direct
          patient care

Repeat Vascular Applicant (2020 and beyond) 2 Points
