Cardiac Sonography Selection Criteria
Please note: This program is adding pediatric coursework to become the Adult and Pediatric Cardiac Sonography ATC program, with a start date of Fall Term 2023. Check back for updated information soon about when students can apply for the new version of this program.
Because the Cardiac Sonography Applied Technology Certificate program has limited enrollment, admission is based on a point system. After the application deadline, files are sent to the program Selection Committee, where they are reviewed and points are carefully tabulated. All applicants must:
- Have at least a 2.5 GPA or higher by the application deadline
- Be registered/credentialed in one or more of the following: American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), American Registry for Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), and/or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) - AND/OR -
- Be a graduate of a 2-year, regionally accredited Associate in Science (A.S.) or Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) program in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (General, Vascular, or Cardiac) plus successful completion of the Sonographic Physics and Instrumentation (SPI) board examination.
- Be CPR certified

Health Education / Related Work Experience | |
Graduate with an Associate in Arts degree, Associate in Science degree, or an
Associate in Applied Science degree from a regionally accredited institution |

Military Service - two years or more | 2 Points |
One year of full-time equivalent work in a healthcare position during the last
two years, involving direct patient care |
3 Points |
Graduate of a Health Science/Nursing program - Two semesters or more, with no recent experience in direct patient care |
4 Points |
Graduate of a Health Sciences/Nursing Program - One semester or less, with 6
months full-time work experience within the last two years involving direct patient care |
5 Points |
Graduate with a Bachelor's or Master's degree in any field from a regionally
accredited institution |
5 Points |
Graduate of a Health Sciences/Nursing Program - Two semesters or more, with
6 months full-time work experience within the last two years involving direct patient care |
