Human Resource Specialization

The BAS Organizational Management Human Resource program is designed to prepare students for roles as human resource specialists, compensation and benefits administrators, trainers and succession planners, as well as corporate recruiters. Students can also expect to complete coursework and projects in alignment with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) certifications: SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) and SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP). These certifications may require additional assessments by an outside agency and confirmation of an active, current role in the human resources field.

The admissions process follows the general bachelor's degree enrollment steps. Students are accepted into the program for the Spring, Summer and Fall terms which start in January, May and August each year. The Organizational Management common core courses for this degree can be taken on campus or online, and sometimes in a hybrid format, while the five Human Resources Specialization courses are only taught online.

The degree is intended to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to enter the workforce in entry to midlevel human resource positions. Graduates will be able to demonstrate mastery of HR functions such as selection and placement, training and development, and management of human resources that aligns with the strategic objectives of their organizations. Students will complete coursework relating to current topics in employment and labor relations, employment law, and organizational development and change.

While the HR Management specialization offers a 100% online option, courses can fill quickly when registration begins. To finish a program that has a designated 100% online option by taking only online courses, students need to register in a timely manner to ensure they have a seat for the online course offerings of their choice. The same guidance applies to access for face-to-face courses on campus. Work with your advisor as needed when planning and be sure to check the important term dates and student email for current information about registration start dates.

These BAS programs are designed for students who already hold an Associate in Science degree (A.S.), Associate in Arts degree (A.A.) or higher from a regionally accredited institution, including recent graduates and those with experience in the work force. An Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree does not meet the minimum eligibility requirement for entry into this program. AAS degree holders who intend to transfer into the BAS program should consult with an academic advisor to review coursework and determine the best transfer options.
