Medical Imaging Specialization

The  Applied Health Sciences BAS, Medical Imaging specialization includes the choice of tracks in Vascular Sonography or Adult & Pediatric Cardiac Sonography (Please note the Cardiac Sonography track has been updated to include pediatric coursework effective with students starting in Fall 2023 and beyond). The medical imaging specializations have been developed solely for the continued education of licensed imaging professionals.

Eastern Florida State College recognizes the need for continued education within the professional imaging community and offers this specific specialization to imaging professionals with an Associate in Science degree from an accredited college in Sonography. Applicants must also have current ARDMS registration (any specialty), ARRT certification in Sonography Primary, or CCI certification.

Coursework for both tracks takes place at EFSC's Health Sciences Institute on the Melbourne Campus, and also includes hands-on experience in clinical settings. Core courses and technical electives are also available online, allowing the flexibility needed to accommodate busy schedules.

Students can be granted up to 60 credits toward the BAS Medical Imaging Sciences Specialization - Vascular Technology or Adult & Pediatric Cardiac Sonography tracks - if they are a credentialed diagnostic medical sonographer who has completed an A.S. degree in sonography from an educational program accredited by CAAHEP through the JRCDMS.

Additional credits are awarded on a case-by-case basis with consideration given to program accreditation, program length and content, the applicant's performance in the program, and professional credentialing of the applicant.
