What to Expect from Tutoring

Our professional tutors are here to provide a complimentary service to EFSC students who need additional help with understanding core concepts and how to improve their study skills. If you have questions regarding formulas, concepts, processes, formatting a paper, structuring a paper or improving your writing, our tutors can help.

Tutors will not explain your class assignments, assist you with a quiz or test or edit your paper. Please see instructors during their office hours or your class for clarification about assignments. Please note that all tutoring times are subject to change.

Virtual Tutoring Information

Walk-In On-Campus Tutoring: Monday - Thursday, 8 AM - 5:30 PM (Scheduled appointments not required, but are preferred to avoid wait time).

Please be prompt or your appointment may be forfeited. Sessions are approximately 45 minutes each.

To better assist you, please bring the following to your tutoring session:

  • A typed copy of your draft and a flash drive for revision
  • Assignment instructions
  • Prior drafts and other material relating to assignment
  • A list of concerns you have about your draft
  • A willingness to accept constructive feedback

What a writing tutor does and does not do:

We do...
point out repetitive errors and allow students to practice finding and solving these errors.

We do not...
point out or fix all errors in a paper or assignment.

We do...
take time to instruct, expecting student to apply these lessons to improve their papers or finish their assignments.

We do not...
edit essays or assignments.

We do...
provide resources for student reference, such as print and online help including MLA, APA and CMS documentation styles.

Online Writing Lab
Writing tutors review submitted papers, scholarship essays, & job applications seven days a week. Turn-around time is usually 24 hours or less. As of March 9, 2023, Brainfuse: Writing Lab has replaced the Online Writing Lab known as OWL. Visit the Brainfuse page for how to access Writing Lab through Canvas. You can also visit a Campus Writing Center for in-person assistance.
