Center for Service Learning 2015 Honorees

The Center for Service Learning held its annual awards ceremony May 12, 2015 at the King Center for the Performing Arts on the Melbourne campus. More than 4,500 students volunteered nearly 200,000 community service hours during the 2014-15 academic year, with 140 faculty members participating to support the program. In addition, 38 students received the prestigious Citizen Scholar distinction, each giving back 300 hours or more of their personal time in service to our community while maintaining a 3.0 GPA or higher.

The Center is consistently recognized as one of the top service learning programs in the nation, and has been the recipient of the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll nine years in a row.

College President Dr. Jim Richey praised all those involved, saying “there is no better example of who we are at Eastern Florida State College than using community service to teach students to use their abilities to look beyond themselves and toward the greater good of the community in which they live.”
