College Hosts Annual Veterans Day Ceremony

November 2, 2012 - Brevard Community College will host the 30th Annual Veterans Memorial Service and Massing of the Colors event on Sunday, Nov. 11, beginning at 3 p.m. on the Cocoa Campus in the George F. Schlatter Veterans Memorial Amphitheater. The event is free to the public.

This very moving, patriotic event honors those who gave their lives in service to our country, as well as pays tribute to those who currently serve in the U.S. Armed Forces. This year's featured service branch is the U.S. Coast Guard, with Guardians bringing a 24-foot Coast Guard Cutter to display.

The BCC Wall of Honor, located at the entrance of the amphitheater, displays the names of more than 100 of Brevard County's military casualties from World War I to the current conflict. Sadly, three names were added to the Wall this year in honor of our local fallen, including: U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer 3, Brian D. Hornsby (age 37) from Melbourne; U.S. Army Spc. Justin L. Horsley (age 21) from Palm Bay; and Marine Gunnery Sgt. Jonathan W. Gifford (age 34) also from Palm Bay.

The event is co-sponsored by the College and The Military Order of the World Wars and will feature special music provided by the BCC Wind Ensemble under the direction of Jim Bishop.
