Haunted Forest Event Offers Family Fun

October 15, 2012 - The nature preserve and hiking trail surrounding the Brevard Community College Planetarium will be transformed into a haunted forest for two weekends of Halloween-themed family fun that benefits two local non-profit organizations.

The Haunted Forest event is Friday and Saturday, Oct. 19 and 20 and then again on Oct. 26 and 27 from 6:45 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. both weekends.

The event is a fundraiser for the Brevard Museum of History and Natural Science, which is located at the other end of the nature trail. New this year is a Haunted Museum Wing once participants have made their way through the trail to the museum. There will be two versions of the trail, with a less scary path for younger children.

The entrance to the Haunted Forest event is at the BCC Planetarium and Observatory, located at 1519 Clearlake Rd., Cocoa.

Tickets are $7 for ages 12 and up and $4 for ages three and older, with children two and under admitted free with an adult.

To receive $1 off the ticket price, bring two non-perishable food items to benefit the Brevard Sharing Center. The food drive is sponsored by BCC's Rotaract Club, whose student members are also volunteering to work along the haunted trail. BCC's cosmetology students will be assisting with scary makeup and College theatre department students will also be adding some drama throughout the trail.

"In addition to the trail, we will have plenty of kid-friendly costumes and games, plus face painting and pumpkin decorating," said Planetarium Associate Director Suzanne Leslie. "People can wear costumes and we give away lots of treats."
