Verification of Enrollment
Students receiving Chapter 33 and 31 benefits are not required to verify their enrollment – so this is a student-led part of the VA benefits process. Students in all other chapters (except Chapter 35) pursuing a program of education leading to a standard college degree or higher or a non-degree program must verify their enrollment on a monthly basis in order to receive their benefits check for that month.
Starting with the last day of the month, you may verify enrollment for that month by calling 1-877-823-2378 and following the instructions or you can verify at the VA Website www.gibill.va.gov and click on the “verify attendance button” that will take you to the WAVE link to verify attendance.
Payments for the Chapter 35 students who are pursuing a program of education leading to a standard college degree at half time or greater training time are released the first of the month following the month for which payment is due (for example October payments will be released November 1st). Those pursuing non-college degree programs, whether at vocational technical school or at an institution of higher learning, are sent a certification of attendance form at the end of the month for which payment is due. This form must be signed by the student and return to VA before payments are released.
Certification for Benefit Payments
To be certified for VA educational benefits, veteran students must notify the EFSC Veterans Educational Benefits Office of their current class registration and then we will take care of the certification from that point. We are now using the Electronic Certification Program VAONCE to generate enrollment certification and notices of change of veteran student status. VAONCE eliminates manual preparation of these documents, and enables us to electronically send them to the Atlanta regional processing office in Decatur, GA. VAONCE gets the information to the regional office the same day and in their system within 24-48 hours.
For continuously enrolled students and those training under the Chapters 33, 30, 1606 and 1607, certifications can be submitted for payment as soon as the student is registered for classes and notifies the Veterans Educational Benefits Office. Usually, if the student registers early for classes and immediately notifies the Veterans Educational Benefits Office, interruption of benefit payments can be avoided. However, there will always be a delay in receipt of VA benefits each semester for veterans training less than half-time, as the college cannot confirm enrollment to the VA until after the add/drop period. (About a week after the new term begins).
