Adorable Me! & Active Me! Infant Programs

Infancy is an amazing time of growth and change both for infants and for their parents. Raising young children can be less stressful and more fun when families share the joys, changes, and challenges of raising very young children. The Lab School Infant Program has two classes based on age: Adorable Me! for parents of younger infants (6 weeks - 9 months) and Active Me! for parents of older infants (10 months - 18 months). Each class has a daytime and optional evening section. One day per week parents share fun, developmentally stimulating activities with their children in a structured, informal atmosphere. While learning from the various activities, parents share their questions with other parents and the Parent Educator, finding answers and friendship in a safe, supportive environment. Evening classes meet once per month and cover topics such as sleep patterns, nutrition, child proofing for crawlers, the personality of infants, beginning a lifelong loving discipline relationship, sibling interactions and more.

Note: All ages for all classes are as of September 1st for the school year. Children remain in their class for the year.

Terrific Toddlers Program

The Lab School toddler program focuses on the physical, social, emotional and cognitive growth for children nineteen months to age 3 years. Each class has a daytime and evening section. Parents and children choose one or two days a week to jump into friendships, dive into creativity, and laugh while learning new social, emotional and language skills in this highly interactive class. Classes are taught by a caring Parent Educator who will answer questions and help families assess and encourage all aspects of their child's development. Parents participate in the "co-op" by choosing "jobs" which help the class succeed and build bonds with the other class families.
Adult evening classes meet twice per month in Cocoa Beach and once per month in Melbourne with an optional second evening meeting. One monthly meeting covers various topics, including Sensory Integration, parent-child communication, the "terrific twos," encouraging a positive self image, supporting intellectual growth, toilet training, how toddlers play with others, emerging language and safety in the toddler years, and more. The other monthly meeting, which is optional, focuses on Conscious Discipline ®.
Note: All ages for all classes are as of September 1st for the school year. Children remain in their class for the year.

Terrific Toddlers Saturday Classes

Lab School Saturday Toddler class provides a place where toddlers can reach their full potential while forming positive connections with their parents and new friends. Toddlers learn through play: moving to music, creating with creative materials, playing outdoors and using their bodies to strengthen their minds. Lab School activities are specially designed to help children develop physically, emotionally and socially. Parents experience how to teach children cooperation, and learn to tame toddler situations with calm and confidence while having fun and forming parent-child bonds that last a lifetime. Together, parents and children make long lasting friendships and a healthy family. In the Lab School Cooperative, families support each other and make each class their own. For families with children ages 18 months to 3 years.

Playful Preschool and VPK Program

Lab School offers both a 3-day and a 5-day program for preschoolers, providing sensory exploration, creative problem solving and academic "fun"damentals. Children 3-4 years of age attend 3 days per week, and children 4 years of age and older* attend 5 days per week.

Children aged 4 by September 1 are eligible to attend Playful Preschool for FREE through the VPK Program. VPK is open to any Brevard County family regardless of income or situation.

Lab School focuses not only on what children learn, but how they learn, by recognizing differences in temperament and learning styles, and using positive activities to foster physical, social, emotional, and mental development. Team work, active learning, self control and loving relationships are emphasized throughout the curriculum. The 3-day and 5-day programs develop knowledgeable parents who have experience in interacting with and guiding their children, vital skills for modern parents through the rest of the school years. Parents attend on their co-op "work days" and participate under direct supervision of a teacher providing structured, sequential and complex learning activities. Evening classes meet twice per month. In one monthly evening class for the adults, parents identify positive parenting strategies, and learn effective parent/child communication skills. Some of the other topics covered include temperament theory and how it applies to older children and to parents at home, work and school; emotional and moral development; literacy; learning styles; how families operate together; kindergarten school readiness; and other special topics. The other monthly meeting focuses on Conscious Discipline ®.   Playful Preschool prepares children to succeed in the next stage of education and beyond.
Note: All ages for all classes are as of September 1st for the school year. Children remain in their class for the year.
