EFSC Volleyball Splits Final Two Matches in Jacksonville

Aug. 30, 2014 - Eastern Florida's volleyball team moved its record to 4-3 on Saturday, splitting its final two matches in the Florida State College Jacksonville Marriott Kickoff Classic.

Eastern Florida dropped the day's first match, suffering a three-set sweep at the hands of Pensacola State College, 13-25, 22-25, 25-27, but rebounded to wring out a five-set victory over host FSCJ, 25-19, 22-25, 16-25, 25-22, 15-9.

The Titans split their four weekend matches at FSCJ.

Freshman Treasure Ingram led EFSC with nine kills against Pensacola. Sophomore Fernanda Faustino added eight.

"We self-destructed in this match," said Eastern Florida first-year head coach Andrea Rasmussen. "We were unable to find any positive momentum."

That wasn't the case against FSCJ.

"It was a very defensive match," Rasmussen said. "We were finally able to convert our aggressive defense into offensive options.

"Our passing and first contact on defense were solid all match."

Ingram had 14 kills against FSCJ while classmate Lena Kalberer added 10. Freshman Caitlin Stoner registered 33 digs.

Eastern Florida plays its first of eight home matches at 6 p.m. Tuesday on the Melbourne Campus, hosting Polk State College. The match will be webcast live at
